How a Kharkiv pizzeria started delivering hot meals to Kharkiv residents in the subway and at home a day after the start of a full-scale war. It took our Kharkiv partner of the Braveheart Foundation, co-owner of Ricco Delivery Cafe Oleksandr Muratov, 24 hours after the war's start, to volunteer in the kitchen of his pizzeria. On one of the first days of the war, Oleksandr and his team, displaying remarkable bravery, made pizza and took it to the nearest metro station to distribute to children frightened by the explosions.
A few days later, Oleksandr called us at the Brave Foundation to request a bag of flour. The next day, they had 10 bags. That's how our partnership began.
Now, the cafe's kitchen, with its team of 5 professional chefs and 3 dedicated volunteers, significantly impacts the community. They prepare food for the residents of Kharkiv, the State Emergency Service, the TRO, the Police, and the Armed Forces. Every day, they deliver about 1000 servings of porridge or pasta with meat to different parts of the city, providing much-needed comfort to those who could not evacuate. These are grandparents and mothers with children. Our volunteer drivers accept the food and food parcels with tears in their eyes, a testament to the profound impact of our work.
The delivery service's call center, which had taken pizza orders before the war, was reformatted to order food parcels. The contacts were quickly spread among older people. The team receives orders for targeted delivery of 200-250 food packages daily.
The co-owner of Ricco Pizza admits that he is afraid if one of the volunteer drivers does not return after delivering food or is injured. They have already come under fire several times while producing food. So now he is providing his 12 drivers with bulletproof vests and helmets.
Nowadays, Kharkiv does not always have enough essential products: cereals, sunflower oil, pasta, canned food, and biscuits. Our partners form grocery sets from these products and deliver them to residents of the city who suffer from shelling every day. Since the beginning of the war, Svyatoslav the Brave Foundation has been helping Oleksandr's team with food and fuel. Twice, we have delivered fuel worth 80 thousand UAH. We continue to provide humanitarian aid.
